KATHERINE DEYOUNG
MEZZO
Katherine DeYoung is a former member of the Patrick G. and Shirley W. Ryan Opera Center at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. In the 2024/25 season, she had the opportunity to perform as Unborn #6 and cover Unborn #5 in Die Frau ohne Schatten at The Metropolitan Opera. In the 23/24 season, she returned to the Lyric Opera of Chicago to portray The Mayor’s Wife in Jenůfa and cover the Marquise de Berkenfield in La fille du régiment. Katherine served as the Alto Soloist for Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Santa Fe Symphony and Symphony of Northwest Arkansas. She also appeared as Hansel in Hansel and Gretel with Opera San Antonio and Ragonde in Le Comte Ory with Opera Southwest.
In previous seasons at The Lyric she appeared as Giovanna in Ernani, Mercédès in Carmen, and Sibyl in the world premiere of Proximity. Katherine performed the title role in Carmen with Opera in the Ozarks
A 2019 Sullivan Award winner and 2021 Richard F. Gold Career Grant recipient, Katherine was a National Semifinalist in the 2024 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition. She has been an apprentice singer with Santa Fe Opera and part of the Detroit Opera Studio. Katherine holds degrees from Michigan State University and the University of Houston.
