CHASE CORNETT
BASS
American baritone Chase Cornett earned critical acclaim for his portrayal of the role of Friedrich Bhaer in Mannes Opera's production of Mark Adamo's Little Women. Opera News proclaimed that "Chase Cornett, in the role of Prof. Bhaer, almost stole the show. His performance of Goethe’s poem, “Kennst du das Land, wo die Zitronen blühn?” was unquestionably the musical and dramatic highlight of the evening. Adamo’s music here had a very special quality that (deliberately) reminded one of Robert Schumann. Cornett’s radiant baritone suited it perfectly.”
A graduate of Mannes School of Music with an Artist Diploma in opera, Mr. Cornett sang the role Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro in the 2017/2018 season under the baton of Joseph Colaneri, with The Mannes Opera and Orchestra in addition to portraying Hamlet (Hamlet), Olivier (Capriccio), and Old Tom (Glory Denied) with Mannes Opera Scenes. Additionally at Mannes, he has performed excerpts from Carmen (Moralès) and The Rake’s Progress (Father Trulove), as well as Dog Days (Father) in concerts presenting the music of David T. Little.
Mr. Cornett earned a Master of Music in classical voice from New York University -
Steinhardt as a recipient of NYU's Reinhold Scholarship. He performed the role of
Pandolfe in Cendrillon in addition to opera scenes portraying Nilakantha in Lakmé, Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro, Leporello in Don Giovanni, and Papageno in Die Zauberflöte.
As a company member of Utah Festival Opera for two seasons, Mr. Cornett performed in productions of Carmen, Il Trovatore, Pagliacci, Cavalleria Rusticana, The Mikado, The Most Happy Fella, and Show Boat. Further musical theatre credits include productions ranging from Camelot and My Fair Lady to 42nd Street and Les Misérables. Mr. Cornett was a 2016 semi-finalist in the prestigious Lotte Lenya Competition.
